30 years ago: 19 May 1982, Langtang Trek day 3, Dunche to Syabrubesi

Wednesday 19th May 1982:  Dhunche to Syabrubesi (7 miles)
We had a late start, leaving after breakfasting on fried potatoes.  We dropped down 1000 ft to cross the Trisuli Khola, then a steep climb of 1000 ft up to a tea house.  On the way to Syabru we met another trekker who told us the bridge over the Langtang Khola was down beyond Syabru so we went to Syabrubesi to cross the river instead - the long way round.  It was a hot day and although the trail was mainly going down, it had some steep upwards sections in places.  We arrived at Syabrubesi (5000 ft) at 14:00 and decided to stay there, Lama Lodge being too far to reach before dark.  Quite tired, I stayed in the lodge and read while Dave and Nick wandered around, fortunately for me they didn’t see much!  Good food in the lodge but a rather limited menu.  I had a hard bed and didn’t sleep too well due to my insides playing up again.

Birds recorded:  Black Francolin h, Rove Dove 2, Spotted Dove 2, Rufous Turtle Dove 2, Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon 1, Indian Cuckoo h, Cuckoo 1, Little Cuckoo h, Himalayan Swiftlet 10, Alpine Swift 10, Little Swift 10, Chestnut-headed Bee-eater 1, Golden-throated Barbet 1, Nepal House Martin 10, White-cheeked Bulbul 2, Black Bulbul 2, Plumbeous Redstart 4, Stonechat 6, Grey Bushchat 1, Blue-headed Rock Thrush 1 male, Blue Whistling Thrush 4, Striated Prinia 4, Tickell’s Warbler 1, Small Niltava 1 male, Verditer Flycatcher 2, Black-capped Sibia 10, Red-headed Tit 1, White-tailed Nuthatch 1, Black Drongo 2, Large-billed Crow 4, Tree Sparrow 5, Yellow-breasted Greenfinch 2, Scarlet Rosefinch 2.
